Mercedes has made a move in 2024. But is the team now equal to Red Bull Racing? George Russell answered that question to GPblog and others after the Hungarian Grand Prix.

With two wins in the last three races, Mercedes is doing good business in the championship. Not long back, the team was still full of question marks about how to find improvement. By now, it has managed to do so.

Difference between Mercedes and Red Bull

At the start of the season, Red Bull was still miles ahead of Mercedes, but Ferrari and McLaren were also a lot faster than the German team. Asked by GPblog if Russell thinks his team is getting closer to the current number one, Red Bull Racing, he replied, "We are ahead of Ferrari without a doubt. I don't think we are a million miles away from Red Bull."

The Briton continued: "But as I said, in these five races, in two races we have clearly been the fastest team. In the other three, we were maybe second or third in terms of speed. So maybe it's just natural fluctuations through the season. But there definitely seems to be a correlation with the temperature."
