Wolff supports Antonelli after expressing self-doubt: 'I want to see this'

Last weekend, Antonelli won his first feature Formula 2 race. The Italian did say recently that he still has a lot to learn before making a move to Formula 1, but according to Wolff, that is part of the process. "Well Kimi did a good job today. That was a dominant win on two different tyre compounds. He was really strong and it was deserved. We had no doubt about his pace. He had such a fast development that it's about learning tyre management and all these things. That's why today was a statement. That's good," Wolff shared his thoughts.

Wolff also explained what he wants to see from the young Italian driver. "Remind yourself when you were 17. It would have never allowed me to take clear decisions. In such a high competitive field. So what I'd like to see from him is doing his best and learning from his mistakes. And continuing to guide the team. In order to improve the performance. Tyre management. Reading the race. Reading the tyre. And all of that he's done today."

'Mick deserves seat, for Vesti it's complicated'

Where Antonelli is already linked to several Formula 1 teams, Wolff believes for Frederik Vesti's getting a seat in the sport is more complicated. The Danish driver finished second in Formula 2 in 2023, and now is a reserve driver for Mercedes. "When it comes to Fred. I mean he's done the job. But there is just no opportunity in Formula 1 at the moment. Keep supporting us in the simulator. They are the unsung heroes. Because you can see they spent the nights from Friday to Saturday in the simulator doing that work. And Mick [Schumacher] also deserves a seat," said the Austrian, also vouching for Mick Schumacher.
