Will it rain during the Belgian Grand Prix?
Ahead of the summer break, Formula One is in Belgium and at the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The track is associated with changeable conditions, so could the rain once again influence the outcome of the Belgian Grand Prix? It already troubled qualifying on Saturday.
If one thinks about the Belgian Grand Prix, weather often comes up as a talking point. During the notorious 2021 event, Formula One had to deal with heavy rain at Spa. After Lando Norris' heavy crash in qualifying and Max Verstappen claiming pole position ahead of George Russell - who was still driving for Williams at the time -, Sunday's race got washed away. That day, drivers were awarded half of the points normally allocated, and Nikita Mazepin's fastest lap of the race was deleted. When F1 ran a Grand Prix at the same track in 1998 in wet conditions, an enormous crash also happened as drivers were making their way toward Eau Rouge.
Weather report for the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix
On Sunday, it will be 22 degrees Celsius with the weather described as 'partly cloudy', but no rain at all is predicted according to weather.com. The conditions should favour McLaren and Red Bull as Verstappen looks to work his way through the field.
