Five years have now passed since a terrible crash during the Formula 2 sprint race at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit killed Anthoine Hubert. His friend Pierre Gasly has certainly not forgotten the Frenchman. The latter is organising another run at the circuit in the Belgian Ardennes this Thursday to reflect on the loss of the racing talent. The entire F1, F2 and F3 paddock have been invited by the Alpine driver to take part in the run.

A year after Hubert's death, Gasly organised the 'Run For Anthoine' for the first time, now approaching its fourth edition. Once the party arrives at Eau Rouge on Thursday - where the accident took place - a tribute will be paid to Hubert. On Kemmel Straight, the same will happen for Dutch driver Dilano van 't Hoff, who crashed in a FRECA race at Spa over a year ago. In that, his Dutch team MP Motorsport is present.

Gasly is always in touch with Hubert

Gasly spoke to GPblog in Hungary about how important it is to reflect annually on the loss of Hubert. "It is extremely important for me," the Frenchman told us. "He was one of my best friends I grew up with him. I grew up in karting with him. I was at school with him. We lived together."

"It doesn't matter, year after year I'm always thinking about him. I'm always in contact with him. I'm always seeing pictures with friends that we used to hang out all together. And he's always in our conversation, in our topics. It's something which is important. I think as a sport, it's important to remember the champions you lose over the years," Gasly said.
