Hamilton happily listened to: Not words, but actions
- Ludo van Denderen
He is the most successful F1 driver of all time and a style icon, and so people listen as soon as Lewis Hamilton talks. His reach allows him to rally millions of people around the world, and what the Brit says has an impact. Over the years, the Mercedes driver has become a key advocate for equality and stands up against injustice in the world - small or large. So it will have hit him hard that at the very company to which Hamilton has committed himself as an ambassador, allegations of exploiting staff at suppliers have been raised.
Recently, the Italian justice department conducted raids on a number of Italian companies, which produce the materials for Dior. Hamilton recently made a deal with Dior. These companies are suspected of exploiting their staff (in third-world countries) so that these organisations could supply Dior with the materials at lower prices.
Dior has already expressed its shock at the supplier abuses. Obviously, Lewis Hamilton was not aware of the abuses in Dior's supply chain; otherwise, it is impossible to imagine that the seven-time world champion had ever been associated with the company.
Hamilton shocked by allegations
Naturally, Hamilton is taking the allegations very seriously, having been updated on the events by the French multinational. If what the suppliers are accused of is true, it goes against all the principles and values Hamilton stands for. He has reportedly been assured that this will not happen again in the future, just as goodbye has been said to the suppliers in question.
It is typical of Lewis Hamilton that upon hearing the news, he immediately makes himself heard within the company. Not words but actions; Lewis Hamilton is listened to. Thankfully. And no doubt, the driver will emphatically keep a finger on the pulse in the coming period so that this does not happen again.
