Much has been said in Formula 1 about Sergio Perez's performance. Red Bull Racing's Mexican driver and Max Verstappen's teammate would not be close enough to the Dutchman, and should be swapped for another driver. However, Karun Chandhok also explained his doubts on a possible switch at the Austrian team.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko already indicated in Hungary that a decision on Perez's future at Red Bull will be made after the race weekend in Belgium. Everyone has their speculations about who the Austrian constructor should put in the car next to Verstappen, but the decision on Perez's future has not yet been made.

Chandhok on Perez

Chandhok knows exactly what Red Bull want. "I think the reality is, if a team doesn't want a driver in the car, they find a way to swap it. I think the team want Sergio [Perez] to just lift his game and do enough to justify having him there (at Red Bull, ed.).  They want him to do well and not have to do a mid-season swap," he told Sky Sports.

Chandhok does not think changing drivers during the season is ideal either. "Actually, under any circumstances, swapping a driver mid-season is disruptive. And there's no guarantee that the incoming driver is going to do a better job. It’s just tough to step into someone else's car mid-season," Chandhok concluded.
