Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing's external advisor, was certainly not happy after the free practice sessions on Friday. The Austrian felt that his team had gone down the wrong path in terms of set-up after the first practice session, making things much more difficult in FP2. Apparently, Red Bull's technical management was in complete agreement with Marko, because after the second session, hard work continued in the pit box.

Red Bull worked even longer than it is allowed. Normally, it is in fact possible to work on the cars until 10 pm, but even after this time, the Austrian team's mechanics were still working. According to the rules, twice a year, an F1 team is allowed to use a so-called joker to work longer. This does not result in a penalty. Only if this happens a third time does a penalty follow.

Jo Bauer, Formula 1's technical delegate, has since confirmed via a report that Red Bull have worked longer, but that there is therefore no penalty in return. It is unclear exactly what Red Bull has been working on. No doubt this will become clear in the course of the day.
