Verstappen and Mercedes drivers impress in Belgium, Norris disappoints
The Belgian Grand Prix was a race weekend where drivers could make the difference in qualifying and the race. With rain on Saturday and heat on Sunday, certain drivers came out on top, but some disappointed. Here are GPblog's ratings.
George Russell and Lewis Hamilton drove a strong weekend for Mercedes. At Spa-Francorchamps, Russell crossed the line first, but through no fault of his own he lost the win due to a disqualification. However, the single-stop strategy came from him and made him succeed completely. Lewis Hamilton on the other hand did little wrong. The Briton drove a strong qualifying and almost perfect race.
Behind the Mercedes duo, there was also a strong performance from Oscar Piastri. The Australian drove to the podium and again outsmarted his teammate at the start. For the disappointing performance, Lando Norris, therefore, gets a disappointing grade.
Max Verstappen drove a much better race than his title rival in that respect. Verstappen was supreme in qualifying and eventually drove to a neat fourth place in the race, after Russell's penalty. Thus, he could extend his lead in the championship. Red Bull Racing did not do so in the constructors' world championship because of Sergio Perez.....
