Leclerc sees good development emerging: 'Nice for Formula 1!'

It is currently summer break in Formula 1, which means Formula 1 drivers can rest for some weeks, or of course work very hard on the car within the limits of the mandatory break. For Ferrari, the first half of the season was not always easy. The Italian Scuderia started well, but during the final races the McLarens, Mercedes and Red Bulls seemed faster. Charles Leclerc reflects on the first half of the season.
Leclerc on competition in Formula 1
With Red Bull, Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari being close together, the races are becoming more exciting. Leclerc sees this as a good development, but would also have liked to be on P1 with Ferrari. "It's nice for Formula One. On one hand, the biggest part of me wished there was total domination by Ferrari and it would be a very boring season in that sense. But it's not, and we've still got a lot of work to do," the Monegasque told GPblog and other media in Belgium.
"Obviously, with the last few few races we are not in the momentum of fighting for wins at the moment so we've just got to focus on ourselves but it's true that it's good and interesting for Formula One to have different winners, to have different teams developing their cars in a really good way and this makes it very interesting," the Ferrari driver continued.
Leclerc on first half of the season
Leclerc then looked back on the first half of the season, which did not always go smoothly for Ferrari. "We went through tough moments with the team, we went through better moments with the team. At the moment, obviously looking at the last four or five races, we are in a moment where we have struggled more."
He continued: "But we are on it and that doesn't demotivate us. If anything, it motivates us even more to come back to a good level of performance and to see the winning trophy. There's a big motivation in the team and I hope that this struggling moment will be the shortest possible." Ferrari are currently third in the constructors' standings, behind Red Bull and McLaren, but ahead of Mercedes.
