Hulkenberg: Dutch GP 'one big party'

Hulkenberg, who currently sits in 11th place in the championship, holds warm feelings about the Dutch GP. "Zandvoort is a track I have a lot of history at doing many races over my junior career there; Formula BMW, A1 Grand Prix, F3, some really good memories actually. It’s a very familiar place from back in the day," said the German, who will make the switch next year to Sauber which will become Audi in 2026.

Hulkenberg has words of praise for the orange army packed into the grandstands at Zandvoort. "Where I’m from it’s very close to the Dutch border, it’s a special feeling and race for me there. It’s a great place with a great vibe, the Dutch Orange Army is out in force, and it’s one big party." Hulkenberg added. The F1 veteran was born in Emmerik, just five kilometres from the Dutch border.

Zandvoort circuit poses challenge for 'big' Formula 1 cars

The Zandvoort circuit is twisty and there are few overtaking opportunities. In addition, it is located by the sea and the wind blows sand onto the track, possibly reducing grip. But according to 'Hulk', that only adds to the challenge: "It’s a short track which is very old school, narrow and short in length. It’s quite tricky to overtake. It’s quite a small track for the big modern Formula 1 cars, but it’s still fun and challenging to get it around.” Hulkenberg concluded. 

Magnussen also looking forward to 'old school' Zandvoort

Hulkenberg's Haas teammate Kevin Magnussen also shared his thoughts on the Zandvoort circuit. "It’s super old-school and it hasn’t changed much since the seventies. I enjoy racing at Zandvoort as it’s a driver's track, when you push there, you really are pushing the limits. I’ll be rested and ready to charge for the second half of the season.” Magnussen added. Both Haas drivers will be looking to score points after recharging themselves with their families over the summer break.
