RB20 taken in hand substantially: 'A good summer break for Red Bull'

For Sergio Perez, the summer break could not have come at a better time. The Mexican struggled in the final races of the first half of the season, but has been allowed to stay in the RB20. The veteran was able to press the reset button for a while and is now ready to go back to helping Red Bull Racing to the world title with fresh courage.
"I took a break from it and switched myself off for a while, although in the background you always keep in touch with the engineers and what's going on," Perez told reporters including GPblog. "It was, I would say, a very positive break for Red Bull. We were able to find many things that I think at least now we know where we are with the car. There have been a few updates that probably put us on the wrong track."
The 34-year-old driver hopes his team can fix the problems and return to the level of the first races of 2024. Perez then hopes to climb a few more spots in the World Cup, because where his teammate Verstappen bivouacs in first place, he himself has to make do with a disappointing seventh place.

That current seventh place in the World Cup caused question marks at Red Bull. Should they continue with Perez or not? After the summer break, it was decided that he could stay on, after Christian Horner and Helmut Marko sat down together in Milton Keynes. Did Perez really fear for his spot?
"It was mostly pure speculation. I don't think the meeting had anything to do with the drivers. It was all about performance. I think I have already said everything I needed to say about speculation. I am fully committed to the team here. I have a contract for the next two years and I am fully committed to Red Bull to get back on top," he concluded.
