Hamilton describes painful moment for Mercedes

Some have downplayed the effects of George Russell's Belgian Grand Prix disqualification, but Lewis Hamilton reports that the whole team felt the pain. Whereas George Russell brushed off the loss of points in the World Championship, Hamilton is quite concerned about the deficit to Ferrari with ten Grands Prix weekends remaining.

Mercedes are the form team in Formula 1. The German team have won three of the last four races. The last victory at the Belgian Grand Prix was a one-two when they crossed the line and stood on the podium, but Russell was disqualified as the car was underweight.

The gap between Mercedes and Ferrari would've been 54 points had Russell kept his race win. Instead, Mercedes are 79 points behind the Italian team with 10 Grands Prix and three sprint races remaining.

Hamilton keeps his eye on the World Championship

"We felt so happy that we had a one-two. It was the first time in a long time. And to be affected by something like that, we all feel the pain because it's from decisions and processes that we've gone through and we've missed," Hamilton told GPblog and others in the paddock.

"Ultimately, it affects all of us when one car doesn't finish, so we lost valuable points. We're trying to catch up to the Ferraris, so it's really not ideal. George took it very well. And I already said that's not the way I want to win the race. I went away on my holiday and I didn't feel like I won a race," Hamilton concluded. The Brit will move to Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Meanwhile, Russell opposed his seven-time World Champion teammate: "We're not too focused on those points right now. We're just taking it race-by-race, just trying to understand the car further and try and get some more victories under our belt."
