Top driver Verstappen still learning every day: 'That's what you always analyse'
- Ludo van Denderen
An illustrious anniversary for Max Verstappen, on the very weekend of the Dutch Grand Prix. At the Zandvoort circuit, the Dutchman will race his 200th Grand Prix, making Verstappen one of the most experienced drivers on the grid. Given his experience and natural talent, Verstappen seems to have little more to learn. Yet the Red Bull Racing driver still thinks he can improve in many areas, he stated in the F1 paddock on Thursday.
"I think every year you gain more and more experience," he told the likes of GPblog. "That obviously helps. I think as a driver, of course, it also very much depends on the car whether you can show your full potential, to show how good you are. Of course, every year you want to try to be a little bit better than the year before."
Verstappen is learning, even if it's small steps
The Max Verstappen of 2015 is no longer the Max Verstappen of today. Especially in the early years, the once very young talent developed into an experienced, often calculating driver, choosing his moments to attack his competitors. But as mentioned, Verstappen is not at the ceiling of his ability with that. As remarkable as that may sound for someone who is already rated as one of the best ever in Formula 1.
"It's not big steps anymore in Formula 1, it's just fine-tuning little bits here and there. You always have moments in a season when you think, maybe I could have done a little better or I could have done it a little differently. And that's what you analyse every time at the end of the year," stated Verstappen, who has the characteristic of never being completely satisfied.
