All drivers, including Max Verstappen, have finished the first day of the Formula 1 weekend at Zandvoort. During the first two practice sessions on Friday, the Dutchman finished P2 during FP1 and P5 during FP2. After the session, Verstappen appeared on F1TV, and he was not exactly ecstatic.

Verstappen not enthusiastic

"I mean, of course, FP1 [we] didn't really get a lot of running in, but I guess in FP2 you could see a little bit more where you are. And yeah, a bit too slow on the short run, a bit too slow on the long run. So, yes, a bit of work to do. I mean, at the moment, no clear answer of how to improve that specifically, but yes, we'll look into things. I mean, yes, a bit too slow, simple as that."

Where the stands were not quite full on Friday, they will be on Saturday and Sunday. That's when Verstappen will be racing for a home victory in front of a hundred thousand frenzied fans. "It's where we have been the last few races, so it's not really a surprise. I just…, we'll try to just find a little bit more performance for Sunday," the reigning world champion told reporters.

During the second free practice, both the McLarens and the Mercedes were faster than both Red Bulls. Teammate Sergio Perez could only be found in 12th place on the timesheet. Work to do for Red Bull, as Verstappen underlined.
