Alexander Albon scored a handsome P8 finish in qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix, however, the FIA made the Williams driver's good starting position disappear. The floor of his Formula 1 car was found illegal by the stewards, resulting in a disqualification.

Albon disqualified after qualifying at Zandvoort

Albon drove the eighth fastest time. In doing so, he beat the likes of Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton, who normally compete for the higher positions. Since it is also difficult to overtake at Zandvoort, it seemed that the Thai would have a chance to end up in the points.

He can now forget about those good chances. After his F1 car failed the technical inspection because the floor was outside the permitted volume, the matter was referred to the stewards. Normally, a disqualification is almost certain at that point and the stewards saw no reason to decide otherwise. Albon thus faces a challenging race with a start from the rear of the order.

Williams react

"Unfortunately, Alex has been disqualified from Qualifying today due to his floor body being outside the regulatory volume set by the FIA. We are incredibly disappointed with this outcome and will be carrying out a thorough investigation and will provide an update soon," the team shared following the decision.
