Guilt-ridden Sargeant after massive crash: 'Mentally a huge blow'

Logan Sargeant crashed hard during the third free practice at Zandvoort. His Williams was heavily damaged, making qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix impossible. Later this Sunday, Sargeant will start from the pit lane for what will undoubtedly be a difficult race.
Afflicted was the best word to describe Logan Sargeant's state of mind. Physically - apart from a few bruises - there were no problems. But the problem lies in the mental aspect. While the other 19 F1 drivers were busy qualifying at Zandvoort, the American stood in his pit box watching his mechanics rebuild the wrecked car.
"I feel okay, a little bit sore, but I'm alright. Mentally, obviously, it's a huge blow," he later told the media. GPblog asked exactly what had happened in that one moment. "Well, what happened is exactly what I thought happened. I just touched the kerb, and I didn't want to pull the car off of that too quickly to avoid what ended up happening. But the second I touched the grass, that was it, so I needed to pull it off a little before the grass," said a guilty Sargeant.
Sargeant admitted his own mistake
"It is what it is. I just need to get on with it. It's my mistake, I'll take that. It was a small mistake with a big consequence. But most importantly, I'm okay and that the car can get fixed up. We're obviously on the back foot, but see what we can do tomorrow, you never know what can happen," the American concluded.
