Max Verstappen came no further than second in qulaifying for Sunday's race during qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix. Not so much the starting spot, but especially the gap to Lando Norris was worrying, father Jos Verstappen also acknowledged talking to Viaplay.

Verstappen was 3.5 tenths short of Norris in total in qualifying. Verstappen Sr commented: "In itself it is positive that he is second, but if you are on 3.5 tenths then I am a bit worried about the upcoming races."

Compliments for McLaren

Verstappen sees his son's team working hard to keep up with McLaren, but they are struggling to do so for now. "They (McLaren) are going like a rocket. We are doing everything we can to close the gap, but we haven't succeeded yet. I also saw this coming a bit, the updates are there but don't do much. They have to pull out all the stops to improve."

Ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, it was definitively announced that Max Verstappen will not be going to Mercedes. On that, Jos says: "The transfer was not necessarily close, but we now know what winning is and we want to keep doing that. That's why it's important to keep our finger on the pulse."

Verstappen Sr underlines

Verstappen has quite a lead in the drivers' championship, but according to the father of the three-time world champion, a fourth world title this year is not yet a guarenteed one. "The title is not a certainty. You never have certainties. He (Max) is doing everything he can to score as many points as possible, but it is not a certainty."
