Can Norris keep applying pressure to Red Bull and Verstappen in Italy?
The Formula 1 teams travel straight to Monza after the Dutch Grand Prix to finish the next race weekend. This weekend, Red Bull Racing are perhaps slight favourites but McLaren insist they will be closer on Monza style circuits after the recent upgrades. Read GPblog's preview here.
Italian Grand Prix 2024
Last season, Verstappen made history by taking his tenth consecutive victory at the iconic circuit. A year later, the contrast could hardly be greater: Red Bull Racing has been struggling since the Miami GP and has so far been unable to solve their problems through updates. Meanwhile, McLaren clearly has the fastest car, as evidenced by the huge lead with which Lando Norris won the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. So it will be quite a task for Verstappen to win the Italian GP for the third year in a row.
Autodromo Nazionale Monza
The Monza circuit is known for the many straights present, allowing drivers to drive at very high speeds. With a length of over 5.7 kilometres, drivers end up on a long track. As the Autodromo Nazionale Monza also brings with it many fast corners, the cars can maintain speed for a long time.
The GP of Italy has been on the racing calendar continuously since the start of F1. During the first three seasons, only Italians managed to win. While Giuseppe Farina won the first version, Alberto Ascari was the first driver to cross the finish line in both 1951 and 1952.
Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher still hold the record for wins at Monza. Both drivers managed to take the top prize no fewer than five times in their careers. Verstappen did so twice so far.
Weather forecast Italian Grand Prix
The drivers will most likely face a dry and quite warm race weekend. From Friday to Sunday, temperatures will be around 33 or 34 degrees, according to Weather.com. It is expected to be partly cloudy and the sun will show a lot, especially on Friday.
When is the Italian Grand Prix in 2024?
After an F1 weekend with particularly beautiful pictures full of Orange fans, it will now be a different colour that will dominate. The Tifosi wearing Ferrari red colours will be present in large numbers to cheer on Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. This year's race weekend in Monza will take place on the weekend of 30 August to 1 September 2024.
What time is the 2024 Italian Grand Prix?
The weekend's start times, unlike Zandvoort, do once again match those of most other European Grands Prix. Sunday's race will start at 15:00 local time, 14:00 BST.
