Pirelli unveils special trophies for Italian Grand Prix at Monza
- Nicole Mulder
Next weekend, the Italian Grand Prix is on the programme. At the ultra-fast Monza circuit, Max Verstappen and his rivals will race wheel-to-wheel for victory. Pirelli outlines the expectations for the Formula 1 race and also reveals the specially designed trophies that the top three can receive after the finish.
Pirelli expects one-stoppers at Monza
Because of the long straights, Monza is driven with low downforce to get the most out of the engine. "At Monza, cars usually run in the lowest aerodynamic configuration of the season to reduce drag, in order to favour top speed. Stability under braking and traction coming out of the two chicanes are the factors that most test the tyres," Pirelli informed.
In addition, Pirelli expects the pit stops to be long, making a one-stop the best option. "This is a track where the time needed for a pit stop is one of the longest of the year so, on paper, a one-stop strategy is quickest. In free practice, it will be important to evaluate what effect the new surface might have on tyre behaviour over a long run, both in terms of performance and of degradation," the Italian tyre manufacturer added.
Pirelli unveils trophies for Italy GP
Since 2021, the trophy for the Italian Grand Prix, of which Pirelli is the main sponsor, has been designed by an artist in collaboration with Pirelli HangarBicocca. This year, the task was entrusted to Andrea Sala, an artist who combines art and the history of Italian design and industrial production in his works.
The artwork he designed - called VROOOM - represents in abstract form the long history of Pirelli tyres, combined with impressions of speed and acceleration. Most of the trophy is made of Valchromat, with a chrome-plated aluminium base.
