Vasseur hopes to see tifosi cheer this weekend: 'Will be a challenge'
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
This weekend it is time for the Italian Grand Prix. After a strong start to the season, Ferrari's team then dropped back a little. At Zandvoort, Charles Leclerc managed to finish third. This came unexpectedly for the team. At Monza, Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur is hoping for another good result.
After the win in Monaco, Ferrari's speed seemed to have slipped for a while. Strong results were lacking. In Belgium, Charles Leclerc finished fourth. This ended up being a third place due to George Russell's disqualification. At Zandvoort, the Monegasque did enjoy the podium celebrations with a third place.
This strong result offers hope for Fred Vasseur. "We come to Monza in good spirits, following our performance in the race at Zandvoort," he said. "It was a demonstration of how, in the current Formula 1, a perfect execution, putting everything together and making the most of one's available package, can really make a difference."
Vasseur looks forward to Monza Grand Prix weekend
This coming weekend, the F1 circus will descend on Ferrari's homeland. "Monza is unique in many respects: the track is truly one of a kind, the only ultra high-speed circuit left on the calendar and this year it will present an additional challenge in that it has been entirely resurfaced, with changes also made to the kerbs at some corners," said the Ferrari team boss.
"But what makes it really special for us is that we know we can count on the support of the tens of thousands of tifosi who will be cheering us on all the way and who, quite rightly, expect great results from us," Vasseur continued. "I will never forget my first Italian Grand Prix with Ferrari last year, the cries of delight when Carlos took pole on Saturday and then the celebrations under the podium on Sunday."
The Frenchman hopes to give the tifosi another good result this year. This is what Ferrari plans to do through the new upgrades that will be taken to Monza. "The goal for me, the drivers and everyone in the Scuderia - the team at the track and the hundreds working back in Maranello - is to once again give the tifosi something to cheer about. With that in mind, our preparation has been scrupulous and we will be bringing some updates for the SF-24 that we hope will see us make another step forward in terms of performance. We know we can rely on the support of all our tifosi and we will put our heart and soul into it," said Vasseur.
