Sergio Perez finished sixth at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, recording his best result since the weekend in Miami. As such, the Mexican is moderately positive about the rest of this season, partly due to the fact that, according to Perez, Red Bull finally know where the problems with the car are coming from. But despite this, the six-time Grand Prix winner also stresses that it will not be easy for Red Bull to hold off the McLarens.

"Well, I think what they've shown in Zandvoort was really, really strong. I think it's been the strongest performance we've seen from McLaren in a while. At the same time, I think we have every hope to believe that Zandvoort is probably a really bad track for us in regards to the wind that we suffer more than others," Perez said at the press conference in Monza.

Hopeful Perez in press conference

Red Bull seem to have been in lesser form for some time, but Perez hopes they can turn the tide soon. "Well, I think the biggest thing for us is that we understand now the issues with the car. We understand them. It's just a question of how quickly and what solutions we have to fix them. But we exactly know where we are with the car. We know what is the issue. And, yeah, hopefully in the coming weekends, even already for this one, we are able to make a lot of progress."

McLaren have now been acting as Red Bull's biggest challenger for some time this season. The British team are steadily closing the gaps in both the constructors' and drivers' championships. Perez expects an exciting battle, but he is confident of a good outcome. "Definitely the momentum is with them. But we're not sitting back. We, as a team, are working really hard to find the solutions. I think it has been a really good step taken to understand the issue. It has taken us probably a little bit too long. But we know our problems. It will just be a matter of maximising from now until the end of the year and see where we end up. But I have got every hope that we can bring some performance to the car in the coming races."
