Verstappen does his best, but 'title is not in his hands' against Norris

Max Verstappen is fighting to claim his fourth world title this season. This seemed like a fairly easy task at the beginning of season, but now that the other teams have come closer, nothing could be further from the truth. The Dutchman is trying not to be too preoccupied with the title and looking at it race by race.

At Zandvoort, Verstappen finished second, but more than 22 seconds behind Lando Norris. Ahead of the Grand Prix weekend in Italy, the Dutchman was asked in a media moment with GPblog and others about whether he is worried about the world title.

Verstappen is not much concerned about the world title

''Listen, I just do the best I can,'' the three-time world champion said. ''If I win it or not, it's not going to change my life. Would I like to win it? Yes, of course.'' Yet Verstappen recognises that without a fast car, there is little he can do. ''It's not in my hands with the performance of the car, because I just try to do the best I can, try to get feedback, try to make it faster. If that's going to be enough to the end of the year, I don't know.''

Verstappen and his team continue to fight for both championships in the next nine races. ''But I do know that we're going to give it everything we have as a team to try and be more competitive than what we showed in Zandvoort, because that was I think just a very poor weekend for us. And just go from there.''

The points difference is exactly seventy points between Verstappen and Norris. Still, this is not really a big lead according to the Dutchman. ''You can't just calculate it like that. I would like to win races. It's still nine races and some sprint races. So these kind of things can easily be overturned, but I also know that you need to have the perfect end to the season. And that, I think, is very hard,'' Verstappen said.
