Italian Grand Prix FP1 results | Verstappen sets the early pace ahead of Leclerc and Norris
Max Verstappen topped the timing sheets in the first free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris at Monza.
With just five minutes to go, the Dutchman jumped up the standings to finish two-tenths clear of the heavily updated Ferrari of Leclerc in front of the Tifosi, with Norris right behind Leclerc in P3.
Behind the top three was Carlos Sainz in the other Ferrari, and Valtteri Bottas rounded out the top five with a fantastic session, sitting in P1 for the majority of FP1. Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton, Alex Albon, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso were the other drivers to make it into the top ten.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who replaced George Russell in the Mercedes for the first free practice session of the season, showed his talent by jumping to the top of the standings in the first ten minutes of the session. However, just five minutes later, the 18-year-old lost control around Parabolica and spun out across the gravel and into the barriers, causing a red flag.
