Andrea Kimi Antonelli's official FP1 debut in Formula One ended just after a bit more than 10 minutes at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Entering the Parabolica corner, the Italian youngster lost control over his car and slid into the tyre barrier. Antonelli reacted to his crash in Monza.

"What a day. First FP1 done. Yeah, unfortunately, it ended quite quickly because of the crash. It was quite a big one, around 52 Gs," the young Italian began about the incident. He then continued with apologising for his crash. "And yes, really sorry to the team and George [Russell] for making them work afterwards."

What went wrong for Antonelli?

The Mercedes junior driver then continued explained what happened. "Just a mistake on my side, just pushing a bit too much for the conditions. And yes, I should have built the run a bit more progressively, but definitely a lesson learned for next time. But yes, still really thankful to the team for making this possible. And still great to see all the tifosi out there and to get the first laps with all the drivers on track."

The weekend is not yet done for Antonelli. The Italian competes this weekend also in Formula 2, where he qualified in P6 for the feature race at his home Grand Prix weekend. "Yes, so not feeling super well at the moment. Just going to go back and try to rest and try to focus for the rest of the weekend, because there's still some races to go and we're going to still try to get a good result," he concluded.
