Tramnitz wins Formula 3 sprint race at Monza, Lindblad only finishes 12th
Tim Tramnitz takes the full prize at the Formula 3 sprint race in Monza. The German driver started from pole position, which he managed to turn into a victory.
Chaotic start Formula 3 sprint race
The Formula 3 race started chaotically. Nikita Bedrin and Noel Leon hit each other in the first chicane. As a result, the race was neutralised after only two laps. Eventually, the race resumed on lap 6.
Tramnitz was in the lead throughout the sprint race. Meanwhile, Sebastian Montoya and Santiago Ramos fought for third position. Ramos won this battle, after which a safety car followed. Max Esterson and Piotr Winsicki hit each other in the first chicane, after which they both ended up in the gravel.
Exciting end in F3 sprint
This safety car went in just before the final lap, making it literally a sprint to the finish. In the end, Tramnitz was flagged first, ahead of Montoya and Ramos. For Arvid Lindblad, P12 was all he could achieve. The young Brit qualified ninth in the second group yesterday, and for today, he finished six seconds behind the leader.
Update: Tramnitz under investigation
However, the race result may be decided after the chequered flag. Tramnitz will now have to go to the stewards as he is under investigation for a starting procedure infringement. More to follow once a decision has been made.
