- Sandy van Wijngaarden
Max Verstappen had a dramatic qualifying session in Italy. Towards the end of the session, he struggled badly with his Red Bull. He was also hampered several times in the pitlane.
Earlier in qualifying, the Dutchman was held up by Oscar Piastri. In Q3, he was also held up by Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard exited his pit box at an unfortunate moment, forcing Verstappen to swerve. "We saw this too," Gianpiero Lambiase said about it. "Yep," replied Verstappen.
Verstappen lost all speed in Q3
The final part of qualifying was dramatic for the championship leader. "I have no fucking grip on this set, shocking," he said after his first lap. His second lap was not much better and he eventually finished seventh.
"I don't know what happened. My car just didn't work at all anymore on Q3. Zero grip," Verstappen said of his qualifying in Italy.
