Lando Norris lacks confidence ahead of the Italian Grand Prix

Norris admits lack of confidence ahead of important start in Italian GP

Lando Norris admits he lacks confidence ahead of an important start at the Italian Grand Prix. The British driver continues to critique his pole position lap and knows a good start will give him a crucial advantage in Monza.

Norris hasn't got off the line well in recent races. That includes last weekend's Dutch Grand Prix where he lost his P1 position before the first corner even arrived at Zandvoort. Despite McLaren having the strongest car on Saturday, Norris isn't full of confidence.

How Norris wants to create a further advantage

"No, not at all [confident]. It just wasn't a perfect lap [on Saturday]. We're still on pole and I'm very happy, so excited to see what we can do today," Norris said during the drivers parade, before revealing his plan to create a further advantage in Italy.

"It's hard to predict so much. I think it'll be a long race. No one knows really what's going to happen, not even us. A bit of it is just figuring it out along the way, but it's a race where trying to control the race will be an advantage, so if we can stay at the front, then it's perfect," Norris added.

"It's great to be part of, but a day like today is my job to go out and perform again. Our goal today is a one-two. Yes, to win, but a one-two will be even better," Norris said, who needs all the points he can to close a 70 point gap to Max Verstappen in the Formula 1 World Championship.
