Norris not surprised by easy overtake on Verstappen: 'Didn't have any pace'
- Cas van de Kleut
After Lando Norris' second stop, he found himself behind Max Verstappen. The Dutchman could not keep his championship rival behind him for long. After the race, Norris was asked if he expected to pass Verstappen so easily.
Verstappen clearly did not have a car with which to fight for victory in Monza. On Saturday, he already qualified in P7. During the race, the championship leader also failed to move forward.
After Norris' second pit stop, it soon became clear to observant viewers that he would have to overtake Verstappen. Once they got close, the Dutchman managed to keep the McLaren driver behind for just over one lap. After Norris overtook Verstappen, Red Bull called him in fairly quickly for his second stop.
Norris not surprised by easy overtake on Verstappen
Norris was not surprised by how relatively easy he could pass Verstappen: "I mean, they didn't have any pace. So therefore, it wasn't a surprise. I was on much fresher tyres, like 10, 15 laps or something. It was expected. They seemed to struggle with some things this weekend, but they'll be fine next weekend."
