Hamilton expecting more upgrades and 'performance' from Mercedes
For Lewis Hamilton, he would have been expecting better than P5 at the Italian Grand Prix. After topping the timing sheets in FP2 and FP3, showing some great pace around the 'Temple of Speed', he was disappointed in qualifying, leading to some harsh criticism of himself. He moved up one spot to P5 come the race's end, but he hoped for more. However, coming into the next race at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion believes Mercedes will come with some updates.
It has been a roller coaster of a season for the 39-year-old. In his final year with Mercedes, before he moves to Ferrari in 2025, the seven-time world champion has taken two victories, including a record-breaking ninth win at the British Grand Prix. However, the Brit was 'furious' with himself after qualifying P6 at Monza, a string of self-critical moments in 2024. However, he is expecting his W15 to have some new updates at the next Grand Prix in Baku, and he will hope that can improve his fortunes.
Hamilton 'hoping to fight for a win again' with new updates
Speaking to the paddock after the Grand Prix at Monza, which included GPblog, Hamilton said some updates for the W15 are in the pipeline: "We definitely have [some updates], yeah. There's definitely some performance to come over the course of the next few races. We’ll find out when we get there. We do have small bits, but I don't know if we have anything huge coming. But hopefully, we have some more performance."
Hamilton will be searching for his 106th win and his 85th for Mercedes, which will be the perfect way to sign off what has been one of the most successful driver and team partnerships in F1 history: "I'm hoping that we can make some progress. There'll be some tracks where we'll be a little bit better than we are here. I hope that we have another chance to fight for a win at some stage."
