Newey expects success in partnership with Honda: 'Very pleasant work'

Honda have supplied the engine for Newey's former team Red Bull Racing for many years now, but from 2026, the Austrian team will start developing its own power unit in collaboration ith Ford. The Japanese manufacture will supply engines to Aston Martin from that year.

Now that Newey will join yet another team that will have Honda supplying their engines, the master designer is happy that the collaboration between himself and Honda will continue when he joins Aston Martin. He also stated that the Japanese manufacturer is already busy with the 2026 regulations: "The power unit has been announced for some time. So Honda will be working very hard on that. I’m very pleased to stay working with Honda.

"I've really enjoyed working with them over the last six years at Red Bull," the Brit continued. "A great bunch of engineers, very easy to work with."

Newey then went on to speak about the chassis, with the regulations expected to be announced later than the rules around the power unit: "On the chassis side, then the aerodynamic regulations will be announced on the 1st or 2nd of January. So I will be joining two months into that," Newey explained.

"It'll be a case of getting myself up to speed as quickly as possible. And just as importantly, getting to know everybody here, learning how to work with everybody and how we all get the best out of each other. That's what it's really about. The 26 rules. Yes, of course, they are an opportunity because there'll be a reset for everybody. Whether we'll be able to capitalise on that or not, we just don't know. I never spend too long fretting about these. Attitude is always get on and do the best job you can. And what will be, will be at that point," Newey concluded.
