FIA conclude budget cap investigation: Alpine and Honda made breaches
- Ludo van Denderen
For several years now, the 10 F1 teams have not been allowed to spend more than the budget cap. The FIA strictly monitors that nobody exceeds the budget. In the past, Red Bull Racing, for example, faced a hefty penalty for exceeding the budget cap. The motorsport federation reveals that all teams complied in 2023. In other words, they have not exceeded the budget cap.
Procedural errors for Alpine and Honda
Among the engine manufacturers, two teams have failed to adhere to the procedural guidelines. The FIA reports these are Honda and Alpine. "The CCA confirms that although Alpine Racing SAS and HRC have both been found to be in Procedural Breach, neither have exceeded the Cost Cap level. Both Alpine Racing SAS and HRC have acted at all times in good faith and are currently cooperating with the CCA to finalise the matter."
"Considering the nature of the breach, the complexities of the new Financial Regulations for PU Manufacturers and the challenges associated with their first year of implementation it is the CCA’s intention to propose to these two PU Manufacturers to settle their respective breaches by means of an Accepted Breach Agreement (ABA)." This seems to indicate that there will be no penalty.
The other two engine manufacturers have, therefore, complied with the rules. No irregularities have been found at the ten Formula 1 teams either.
