f1 max verstappen previews Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Verstappen looks ahead to Baku Grand Prix: 'That's our priority'

11 September at 10:30

Max Verstappen hopes for a better result at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after finishing sixth last time out in Italy. Lando Norris and McLaren are targeting both World Championships, and Verstappen knows he will need to be more competitive to withstand the challenge. He explained what he did during the off-week to improve performance.

Verstappen hasn't won a Formula 1 Grand Prix since the Spanish GP in June. To put it mildly, his Red Bull Racing RB20 is no longer the fastest car in the F1 field, making every race challenging. Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the Dutchman reveals he hopes for a better result in Baku.

"It is our priority to get our form back to where it needs to be. I have been back in the factory with the Team this week and on the sim ahead of the double header. Monza was a tough race and it is our priority to get our form back to where it needs to be. We always want to be more competitive and the Team has been working hard to improve the issues we have been seeing with the car from the past few races," Verstappen explained.

Verstappen expects Baku to be a challenge

The European stint of the 2024 Formula 1 season has ended. The upcoming double-header sees the Baku race followed by Singapore. "We are now back to the flyaways with this first race returning to Baku. It is always a good challenge coming here and is an interesting track to drive, being a street circuit with long straights, so we are ready to get back racing again and see what the weekend brings," Verstappen concluded.

At last year's Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing secured a one-two finish. Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez won the race. The Mexican is the most successful driver at the Baku City Circuit, and his record points haul will not be beaten even if he records a DNF or finishes outside the points this weekend.
