Aston Martin are clearly over the moon after the official announcement of signing Adrian Newey this Tuesday. The British master designer will start working with the team in 2025, coming over from Red Bull. The British team's ambassador, Pedro de la Rosa, now calls the Briton a 'gamechanger' in terms of the team's future in the competition.

"It’s fantastic news for us. It is something we were all hoping and waiting [for] and dreaming of, but it’s now a reality. It just highlights how appealing our project was, how exciting it was for Adrian to join and what an exciting future we have. I can’t wait for him to get started and to work again with him," De la Rosa said.

The now 53-year-old Spaniard competed in a total of 105 Grands Prix in Formula 1 and worked with Adrian Newey from 2003 until 2006, who was the technical director at McLaren when the De la Rosa was a reserve driver at the Woking-based team. So De la Rosa knows what it is like to work together with the 65-year-old engineer. He also already called Newey in a game of 'guess who' someone Fernando Alonso 'would like [to join]' on DAZN.

Star-studded team at Aston Martin

"I think it just gives so much credit to our team because, at the end of the day, every team on the grid wanted Adrian to join, but he decided for Aston Martin. I think it's a gamechanger," said the Aston Martin ambassador.

However, the Spaniard also did not want to play down the qualities of the rest of the technical team. "I think he’s decided for our team because he saw that the ingredients to win were there – the resources, the people, the team. They were all in place, otherwise he wouldn’t have joined," he underlined.
