Aston Martin trumps Williams with Newey: This is how Albon reacted to it
Aston Martin celebrated the news that Adrian Newey would join the team in March 2025. In doing so, the team trumped Williams, who had also hoped to sign the successful Formula 1 designer. Current Williams driver Alexander Albon reacted to the news.
After Newey announced he was leaving Red Bull Racing, Williams team boss James Vowles did not waste any time and immediately opened talks with the Brit. Williams are preparing for 2026 - when the new regulations take effect - and confirmed Albon and Carlos Sainz for the upcoming seasons. In the end, Williams weren't able to attract Newey as he will join Aston Martin.
How did Albon react to the news surrounding Newey?
Facing the media in the paddock of Baku's street circuit, Albon revealed what he thought of the news that Newey will go to Aston Martin. "I wasn't so involved in the talks. But of course. Adrian would have been a great asset to have. He obviously chose Aston. I think it will be interesting to see what he can do with the team," Albon responded to a question from GPblog.
Albon drove for Red Bull Racing in 2019 and 2020, which means he has previous experience of working with Newey. The Thai driver looks back fondly on working with the designer. "Obviously, I know about working with Adrian. I know what it's like to work with Adrian. Super, super nice guy. Very humble considering how successful he is. Very open-minded, which I think is what makes him so good. So I think he's going to do well once he joins Aston," Albon concluded.
