Long-awaited news broke this week that Adrian Newey will be joining Aston Martin after he leaves Red Bull. Newey's manager Eddie Jordan gives the inside scoop on the designer's decision to leave the top team and how he decided on Aston Martin.

Eddie Jordan responds, why Aston Martin?

Speaking on the Formula For Success podcast about why Newey chose Aston Martin instead of another top team, Jordan reveals that Newey did have discussions about joining Ferrari, but Fernando Alonso was a big influence on his decision. “Of course, we did have long discussions with Ferrari, but Aston Martin and Fernando was the one that came back to give what Adrian feels was, if you like, juice to his challenges.

After a successful time with Red Bull which saw multiple title wins, Jordan believes that Newey wants to replicate his Red Bull success by taking another team from the midfield to the top. "He wanted to see how he could get a team just like Red Bull, from the top five up to the top drawer... And here’s a team that I believe is now going to be on the move. It’ll be interesting and exciting to see how it unfolds."

Jordan believes Aston Martin have a bright future as the partnership of Newey's proven skill and Lawrence Stroll’s unique leadership will lead the team to success. “And I have to believe that in the future this has the opportunity and the success that the willingness that somebody like a private team like Aston Martin in the hands of Lawrence Stroll, managed and controlled and engineered by Adrian Newey, has the most unbelievable opportunity to be one of the great teams of the great future.”

Aston Martin have had a disappointing 2024 season as they currently only have 74 points with eight races to go. Compared to last season, where the team scored a total of 280 points, it is clear that Adrian Newey's influence will be welcomed.
