What are Aston Martin's plans with Newey? 'We will be more attractive'
With the arrival of Adrian Newey at Aston Martin, team boss Mike Krack believes the British racing team will become much more attractive to drivers, engineers and more. This week, Aston Martin confirmed that Newey will design Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll's car from 2025. Will Aston Martin now become the new Red Bull Racing?
In 2023, Red Bull was unstoppable, especially with Max Verstappen at the wheel. The Dutchman won as many as 19 races out of a possible 22 with the RB19 which was designed by Newey. Verstappen's domination even led him to become world champion on a Saturday in a sprint race with a gigantic lead. Red Bull had a structure that Aston Martin could emulate. Overseen by Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, the best driver won in the best car, designed by the best designer. Can Lawrence Stroll, team boss Mike Krack and top driver Alonso imitate the same methods with Newey?
Krack: 'I think we will be more attractive in every area'
Krack is convinced that Aston Martin can move to the front as the best workers in the paddock will want to work with Aston Martin now that Newey has signed there. "Yeah, I think yes. As you were asking about drivers or what I said about partners and confidence… I think we will be more attractive in every area. Just by that signing. It's due to the increased credibility because this proves that this project can really achieve its targets. If I was just at uni and saw this signing, I would say I can probably learn most there. Let's try to get there. I think there will be that effect," said the Aston Martin team boss to GPBlog and other media.
"You have to be open. The most important thing in Formula 1 is to be flexible and open for change. If you're stuck in the past, then you see in some examples on the grid how it can go. So I think you need to be open, you need to be dynamic at all times. That is how we are approaching it. So there will be more pressure. That is clear. But pressure is the one that we make ourselves. I think Adrian was asked about pressure and he said the only pressure that he has is from his own competitiveness. This applies to many of us. There is no additional pressure. It's just the one that we make ourselves," Krack added.
