Is Leclerc disappointed by Newey's Ferrari snub? 'Not like we didn't try'
Adrian Newey was heavily linked with a move to Maranello before eventually deciding to embark on a new challenge with Aston Martin instead. Charles Leclerc, who will therefore not be working with Newey as a result, is not upset by Newey's snub and believes that his Ferrari team is already extremely strong.
When asked by GPblog if he was disappointed Newey joined Aston Martin instead, Leclerc stated, "It's not like we haven't tried or haven't spoken to Adrian. So I know that there were talks, then he made his decision. We respect his decision. And in the end, as Ferrari, we have always considered more the group than the actual individual. Then, of course Adrian has an incredible palmares and has done amazing things, but on our side we've got an amazing group, and I have no doubts that going forward we have an extremely strong team to come back to the top."
Leclerc happy with Ferrari's current structure: 'I 200% trust Fred'
Above all, Leclerc said he's pleased with the way Ferrari has continued to shape the organisation in recent weeks. For example, the team recently announced that former Mercedes man Loic Serra will work for Ferrari as chassis technical director. "I'm really happy with the structure and obviously, it's Fred’s job to try and put the team in the best possible place to try and win races.
"I 200% trust Fred and I'm completely on board [with] his vision. So it's a continuous process of trying to improve Ferrari and to get better years after years. And we are in the middle of this process, but I'm super happy with the way he sees things and the things he does." The winner of the Italian Grand Prix concluded.
