F1 Sergio Perez wants to help Max Verstappen in battle with McLaren

Perez wants to come to Verstappen's rescue: 'Especially now we are not competitive'

Max Verstappen has raised concerns about the Formula 1 world championship several times this season. The Dutchman won the F1 world title quite easily in 2022 and in 2023. McLaren, with eight races left on the calendar, are targeting both World Championships. Sergio Perez will at least help out Verstappen, he says.

Verstappen said becoming world champion again would be unrealistic. The last few weeks of races proved unsuccessful for Red Bull and the Dutchman. McLaren smell blood and has indicated they will use team orders. Perez is on standby and will try to help Verstappen clinch the world title, should it come to that.

Perez on team orders at Red Bull

"Definitely. Especially now that we haven't been so competitive, I think the main thing is we're still leading the constructors’. They're still eight races to go. So hopefully we are able to find some competitiveness in our package. We're not sitting back and we want to get back in the fight or contention. Hopefully we are able to move forward," the Mexican told media outlets including GPblog.

Perez actually complained about the car all season. The RB20 never worked perfectly for him. Perez explained that this was not always the case with Verstappen. "With my driving style it all became a lot more apparent, probably since race number three of the season. The issues I was having, they just got worse and worse. And now Max seems to be finding similar issues."
