F1 Lando Norris to make up for qualifying mistake in Baku P17
14 September at 15:35

Lando Norris has to deal with a disappointing result in qualifying in Azerbaijan, as the Briton was eliminated in Q1. The Briton finished 17th, therefore, he has to recover significantly to gain points on his title rival, Max Verstappen. Norris talked about what he expects from the Grand Prix on Sunday in Baku.

"I don't know. I don’t know. I’ll have to answer during the race and go forward and overtake. It’s not as simple as saying it," Norris began telling GPblog among others after the session about what he expects for tomorrow.

Ahead of the weekend, McLaren have declared that Norris will be favoured over Oscar Piastri, in order to help in his quest for the drivers' world championship title. Asked whether he expects that Piastri should help him tomorrow, Norris simply answered, "No, that would be stupid."

Norris worried about DRS train

According to the current number two in the world championship standings, overtaking can prove to be difficult. "I think everything is kind of going to have to be done with strategy because you can't overtake. There's plenty of cars at the back which just kind of take all the wing off and just hope for the best. That makes it impossible for a lot of cars to overtake them."

He continued: "So I mean the car’s quick and we kind of hope that it can come into our hands and at some point I can get clean air. But on the street circuit, everything gets backed up so much. You just kind of get forced into a position and you can't do a lot of times. So we'll hope for the best, but I don't expect anything magical unless a strategy comes into play."
