Marko points out key problem for Verstappen: 'That ruined his whole race'
- Nicole Mulder
Helmut Marko is frustrated by yet another poor result from Red Bull Racing, but at the same time, the 81-year-old consultant is resigned to the outcome of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Marko stressed that Max Verstappen only lost three points compared to his closest rival Lando Norris, who finished one place ahead of the Dutchman.
Marko frustrated at Red Bull result in Baku
"We got stuck behind Albon. That ruined the race of Max," Marko explained to Viaplay's camera. "But generally, he didn't have the pace like Checo ahead, so we have to see where the difference came, but it's getting tough."
Perez was on a podium course, but crashed into the wall with Carlos Sainz two laps before the end. As a result, only Verstappen ended up scoring points for the team with his fifth-place finish, giving McLaren the lead in the constructors' championship.
Marko does believe Red Bull can come back. "Yes, we believe from Austin onwards that we have a package that should make us more or even really competitive. But we have to wait till Austin. We have to see what happens in Singapore. But at least we lost three points. That's okay," Marko said.
