Verstappen reacts to possible penalty after Baku GP: 'Am a bit surprised'
- Jeroen Immink
Max Verstappen could potentially face another penalty. The Red Bull Racing driver- who managed to finish fifth in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix must report to the stewards after possibly failing to comply with the virtual safety car rules. Verstappen himself reacted with surprise.
Verstappen: 'I did everything right'
After the finish, Verstappen overtook other drivers while the yellow flag was waved. This was allegedly outside the rules, prompting Verstappen to report to the stewards. The three-time world champion is unaware of any wrongdoing.
"I don't know. I did everything correct. Crossed the line, finish line, all good, checked the flag. I think on the in-lap at the end of the race, there were many examples before where it was the same, virtual safety car, safety car, you drive in and on the in-lap people are passing each other slowly or wave, well done and stuff like that. That's what I did. So I'm a bit surprised,' Verstappen said after the race.
Verstappen is not the only one allowed to report to the stewards. Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon are also allowed to report to the stewards for the same reasons.
