Following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where Oscar Piastri crossed the finish line in first place and Lando Norris also finished in P4, McLaren took the lead for the first time this season in the constructors' championship from Red Bull Racing. According to their British driver, Norris, McLaren's biggest rivals are not the Austrians.

"I said that for a long time [that Ferrari are our biggest rivals]. I think almost since Miami, I said that my Ferrari would be a bigger competitor to us. Mainly because they just had two cars competing up there and fighting well. They've always been there or thereabouts. They seem like now our closest competitors," Norris began in Singapore, saying that their main competitors are at the moment are the Italians. Currently, the gap between the two teams stands at 51 points, while Red Bull Racing are only behind by 20.

Norris doesn't count out Red Bull, but looks at Ferrari

Still, the Briton does not want to count out Red Bull Racing just yet, even if they are not their biggest challengers. "People are thinking too much that Red Bull has held out of the question. And I still stand by saying it's pretty stupid if you think that. Just sometimes, like when Checo obviously drove well last weekend and Max struggled a little bit more, so it still seemed like one car was doing better than the other one, but they've just not consistently had two cars up there."

Thanks to the duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz being able to perform so close to each other, Norris believs Ferrari are the bigger threat to McLaren's current lead. "You don't have to be smart. If you just use your common sense and look at things, you would say that, yes, Ferrari seem like the bigger competitors for us at the minute. But that can easily change this weekend or next weekend or whatever, but for the time being and from what we've seen over the last three, four, five races, Ferrari seem competitive."

"They've always been competitive at these specific circuits that we are at or going to. And two drivers performing very, very well. So yeah, at the minute I would say Ferrari seem like a big competitor," the Briton concluded.
