Ferrari remain cautious after strong run of form as 'good sequence' can end
Following Formula One's return from the summer break, Ferrari seem to have found their form. The Italians did struggle following Charles Leclerc's win in Monaco, but since the break has ended, the Monegasque driver could step on the podium every time with winning the team's home Grand Prix in Monza. Team principal Frederic Vasseur is happy with Ferrari's current form, but remained wary in Singapore.
Since the Monaco Grand Prix, Ferrari drivers could step on the podium twice until the summer break: once Carlos Sainz benefitted from Lando Norris and Max Verstappen's crash in Austria, then Leclerc finished third in Spa after George Russell's disqualification. Since the break however, Leclerc won in Italy and also could step on the podium on merit in Zandvoort and Baku as well.
Even as Ferrari were able to gather some momentum over the past couple of weekends, Frederic Vasseur prefered to remain cautious in Singapore. "We are in a good sequence, but again, it was like this for everybody from the beginning of the season, that if you remember the first four races that Red Bull was flying, then we had a good sequence."
"Then it was Mercedes, then McLaren, then we are really in a pack and I don't remember when it was so tight in F1 with four teams able to win, eight drivers able to win. And you really never know when you are going somewhere, if you will fight for P1, P2, or P7, P8," the team principal continued.
Ferrari on the strong foot?
On Thursday, Lando Norris has declared that he considers Ferrari a bigger rival in the constructors' standings than Red Bull Racing. Vasseur on the other hand has praised his drivers, but he only wants to focus on one Grand Prix at a time.
"It means that for sure we are in a good momentum. As you said, we did the pole position last week. Charles scored a lot of points the last four weekends or five weekends, that Carlos is performing and he will perform this weekend again. But we never know. That it means that we have just to stay focused on the next session to try to get the best from the car that we have and to do a weekend without mistakes because this is costing a lot," the Frenchman concluded.
