Christian Horner has praised Max Verstappen for 'digging deep' in qualifying and pulling out a positive result. The Dutchman will start on the front row of the grid alongside his rival, Lando Norris. The Red Bull boss anticipates an exciting opening lap in Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix.

Singapore hasn't always been a happy hunting ground for Red Bull and Verstappen. In fact, the Marina Bay Circuit is the only track on the current Formula 1 calendar where Verstappen hasn't won yet. Expectations weren't high on Friday after Verstappen finished 15th fastest in FP2. But Horner sees how Verstappen got everything out of the car when it mattered in Saturday's qualifying session.

Horner speaks highly of Verstappen's performance in Singapore

"Yeah, it was a big performance. A good turnaround by Max and his engineers and everybody working so hard. After yesterday, we were in the corner a little bit, but we've responded well. Very strong performance by Max, he dug deep, and I think he got everything there was out of the car today," Horner told Viaplay.

There was also some doubt about Red Bull's long run pace. But Horner believes improvements have been made. "I think we've just improved the car. I think you could hear Max's comments this morning or in the earlier sessions to say that he felt there was a better window. So, it's good to be alongside Lando on the grid, and it's going to be a good first lap tomorrow," he added.

Still, the Red Bull Racing team boss did not make any concrete predictions for Sunday's race. "Tomorrow is different because the car is 100 kilos heavier with all the fuel in it, and it's a very different car tomorrow. But I thought Max did a super job today and got the most out of the car," he continued.

However, Verstappen will have to attack the front runners alone. "Sergio had a bit of a moment in the last chicane. I think without that he would have made it into Q3. Frustrating for him, and thankfully the Ferraris aren't too far ahead either, so it'll be a tough race from 13th on the grid," Horner said.
