Perez amazed at Verstappen's "tremendous" Singapore pace
Sergio Perez was full of admiration for his teammate Max Verstappen after a tricky Singapore Grand Prix weekend. Verstappen was able to take P2 in both qualifying and the race around the Marina Bay Street Circuit, while Perez could only qualify 13th, resulting in a tenth-place finish in the Grand Prix.
There was a lot of worry for Red Bull Racing coming into Singapore this weekend after a tough few weeks. In 2023, it was the worst result by some margin, and many expected it to happen again after a poor Friday. However, Verstappen was able to find some extra pace on Saturday and Sunday, and that meant he too a rather surprising second place. Perez had a lot more struggles, and he was impressed with the performance of his teammate.
Perez looks back with admiration on Verstappen's handsome performance
"Yeah, I think he had a tremendous weekend. He really got on top of it. I mean, thinking on Friday, he was 15 and a half seconds away from me, and he managed to pull it back. That was good"
However, the RB20 is still not where Perez wants it to be with six races remaining in 2024, hoping the Austrian team will find speed in the upcoming weeks without a race. "We still have got some work to do in places like this. I really hope that when we go to another standard circuit we can show a bit more pace and hopefully we can bring some good upgrades for us," Perez said.
