Red Bull see another depature as chief strategist leaves for McLaren
Red Bull Racing Head of Race Strategy Will Courtenay will be leaving the team in 2026 after 14 years in the role at the Austrian team, and he will make the move to McLaren.
Another key figure set to leave Red Bull
A Red Bull spokesperson told GPblog that Courtenay will not leave the team until mid- or late 2026. He will then move to the team of Norris and Oscar Piastri, with whom Red Bull is currently competing for both the drivers' and constructors' titles. At McLaren, he will take up the position of sporting director. Courtenay has been part of Red Bull for 20 years since the team was founded in 2005.
Andrea Stella - McLaren's team boss - has welcomed Courtenay's arrival. “We are delighted to welcome Will to McLaren. His experience, professionalism and passion for motorsport make him the ideal candidate to lead our F1 sporting function. We are now entering a key phase in our journey as a team, and we are confident that he will be a great addition to our strong leadership team as we strive to continue challenging for wins and championships.”
