Horner wants both drivers "firing on all cylinders" to challege McLaren
Christian Horner has said that he needs both of his Red Bull Racing drivers "firing on all cylinders" if they want to beat McLaren in the constructors' championship. After Lando Norris stormed to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix and teammate Oscar Piastri finished in P3, Max Verstappen took second, while Sergio Perez could only finish tenth, meaning the gap between the two teams is now at 41 points.
McLaren only took the lead in the constructors championship after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but after the Grand Prix around the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the British team extended their lead from 20 points to 41 points, giving themselves a great chance of winning their first constructors' title since 1998.
For Red Bull, they know that they are not the fastest team on the grid despite their dominant start to the 2024 season. Since the Miami Grand Prix, the RB20 has been extremely inconsistent, meaning the Austrian team have not won since the Spanish Grand Prix and have seen their lead in the standings shrink at every Grand Prix since.
Horner hoping for "big points" from both drivers
For Horner, he knows that he needs big performances from both of his drivers if they want to earn their third constructors' championship in a row. In Singpoare, he got that from Verstappen, but not from Perez, and he wants more from the Mexican in the final six races of the season: "We need to have two drivers firing on all cylinders. Checo had a good weekend last weekend, he had a tough weekend this weekend. We need to put some weekends together."
The Brit also highlighted that McLaren have been the most consistent team on the gird throughout the season, so he knows that Perez needs to have a much better weekend if they want any chance of taking the title: "You can see where McLaren are putting two drivers on the podium, it's those big points that really make a difference, so we need to make sure that Checo is as far up the field as we can get him."
