Aston Martin are currently competing in the midfield and are struggling to match the pace of the top teams. Team Principal Mike Krack admits that the lack of points scored this season has been due to the current state of the car. Despite these challenges, Fernando Alonso has managed to earn some points in recent races.

Aston Martin is currently fifth in the Constructors' Championship with 86 points, with 62 of these points being earned by Fernando Alonso. The Spanish driver managed to finish sixth in Azerbaijan and eighth in Singapore. Mike Krack discussed the difference in his drivers' performance.

"At the end of the day we have our numbers and we do our pre-race estimations. Now in Baku obviously he finished higher up because there was attrition. But today, and again, full transparency, none of our estimations were predicting that we could finish where we finished," Krack stated after the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Aston Martin team boss has been satisfied with the team's strategic decisions which have contributed to Alonso's success. "Now we could say the predictions are bad. Normally they work out pretty well, and we had I think good calls today, not getting disrupted by others, and very good management in a phase where we didn't build a gap. And then this was sufficient to hold, obviously, if you are very similar, it's also difficult for others to pass you, but first of all you have to maintain that position and we also passed Hulkenberg on strategy."

Lance Stroll lacks confidence

Lance Stroll has not managed to match Alonso which Krack says is due to the team's car and his own confidence. "I think what is lacking is confidence. We see with Lance, if you give him a car that is performing, he's very, very good. You remember Zandvoort, you know, monster lap in Quali 2, when the car gives you confidence. But then if you have no confidence and then you have to drive close to the walls, it's much more difficult. It's up to us to provide a car that gives the confidence."
