Lizards at Mercedes: F1 team rehomes the reptiles found on campus

Mercedes has rehomed seven lizards that were found at their Brackley factory. The lizards - who all have names - were found during construction work at the team's base. They have since been moved to safety.

When the lizards were found, Mercedes contacted a local school in Northamptonshire. The schoolchildren were given the task of naming the reptiles. In the end, the reptiles were called Ziggy, Whizzy, Lizzy, Lissard, Lenny, Fizzy, and Blizzard. The schoolchildren also drew pictures of the animals.

Mercedes created a special habitat

The construction continued, but Mercedes wanted to relocate the lizards to keep them safe. An area of land has been created on campus where they can live. "We've created areas of logs and stne paths because they love sunbathing and also created a sort of wild flower meadow next to our woodland so they will hopefully be there for many years to come. Our hope is they will continue to thrive," Alice Ashpitel, the team's sustainability manager, explained to the BBC.

Over the next few months, Ziggy, Whizzy, Lizzy, Lissard, Lenny, Fizzy and Blizzard will hibernate. Mercedes hope to see them "build up their community" in 2025.
