Hamilton secures major role and vows to 'amplify underrepresented voices'

Hamilton's Formula 1 focus will currently be on ensuring he finishes his time at Mercedes on a high before moving to Ferrari, ready for the start of the 2025 season. The Brit recently celebrated his 350th Grand Prix, but he's also well-known for his fashion adventures. Since the Singapore Grand Prix, Hamilton made his debut appearance in a Dior campaign and is now one of the key people in the 2025 Met Gala.

Hamilton has often advocated for underrepresented backgrounds and plans to continue taking steps forward in this new role.

What is Hamilton's new role?

Hamilton will be the co-chair for the event. The theme is titled: 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' and will explore the styles of Black men from the 18th century through to the present day.

Hamilton will join forces with major names from around the world. This includes the honorary chair and basketball icon LeBron James, singer Pharell Williams, actor Colman Domingo, raper A$AP Rocky, and media executive Anna Wintour. The Meta Gala 2025 will take place on May 5, one day after the 2025 Miami Grand Prix.

Hamilton was delighted to get the role. "I’m beyond honoured to be one of the co-chairs for next year’s Met Gala, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. This theme speaks to me deeply. When I started my career I never imagined what I might be capable of beyond my sport. The pressure to conform holds so many people back," Hamilton said in an Instagram post.

"Growing up as the only Black kid on the track, so often that pressure got to me. Expressing myself creatively was and still is my freedom from that conformity. For Black people across the diaspora, fashion is self-preservation. Fashion is resilience, and I can’t wait to further explore and amplify our underrepresented voices," Hamilton added.
